just seeing what everyone thought of life on mars. I loved the brit Life on mars and now that I have seen the second episode of the US version I'm warming up to it. The first episode was about 20% as good as the brits, the second was 60% as good as the Brits.
I have seen it and I think after the instinct to dismiss it passed I fell asleep watching it... Unheard of for the BBC version. I really want to get into it, but its just not what it was across the pond.
The UK version of LoM was outstanding and the second American version has done a pretty good job of living up to it. This show has to walk a very fine line between self-referential humor and serious drama -- it's a very delicate balance. The first American pilot, Exec-Produced by David E. Kelly, was just awful, I mean it was beyond bad. But the second American version, the one that everyone is seeing on ABC, has managed to get that mix much better. The show's greatest asset, which at the same time is their weakest link, is Harvey Keitel, whose performance seems to be all over the place -- sometimes he sounds like he's reading cue cards, other times he's spell-binding. I'd have to say that it's still too early to tell.
