I am Mark, the web lackey mentioned in the last podcast. I am taking over the maintenance and development of the lions road website from Tryggvy. He will still be adding things from time to time, but he has given me license to kick some major web arse.

So the point of this nifty little thread is to find out what you want/like one the LR site. I have my own ideas about it but I want to know what you think would be good, or for that matter what is good. I am not talking about the dead links or the overlapped text, that is more just a need to recode. No, I mean like color scheme, user interface(the menus, links, etc), the organization, the information on the site. I want your input! Anything and everything.

Anyway, you can reply here. If I end up with a slot on the staff page I will probably put an email address so you can email me too.

Well many thanks for your ideas and support. This will go splendidly, I can tell already.

If there's interest in having food-related content, I'm happy to contribute stuff to it.

Mark you are a new hero of mine. So here are some largely graphic things that I would love to see.

Text fitting: I use Firefox and I see text running into itself and overlapping in several places it always makes me bounce away. I dont know if its firefox or what.

Graphic aspect ratio keeping graphic size width/height would also be great "stretching" images are a pet peeve.

I would also like some buttons or somthing to make navigating around more clear. Like what to click to go someplace or whatever as opposed to hotlink words. This is a tiny thing but if its possible... great!

@Eulalia: perhaps we could do something to the effect of after a podcast comes out with the food/drink(the five min. boil could work here too) we could post a text summary or something. Maybe like directions on making the food? I don't know exactly what all the dead text on the left side of the site was for but I think that could have been Tryggvy's intent.

@maestro-siggy: I am running firefox to, and I get the same thing. Hang on a sec and let me look at the site in safari...

Well, Safari corrected the menu text overlap but it did not correct the table text overlap on things like Tryggvy's staff page. This may be an issue that can be simply fixed by fixing the code, or I may just move it down so it all fits. Regardless I can't do much at the moment. I normally would use Seamonkey to do html editing but for some reason it messes up the page whenever I hit preview. I still can't figure out why. Oh well, I will get another html editor.

So I'd like to see a blog that I can subscribe too (RSS) that has a summary of the last podcast along with any links that were mentioned, etc.

For instance, I was just watching the live show and Eulalia was mentioning a modern product that was medieval food but i missed it, It would be nice to see some of that in print after the show.

I think that just having standard "About" pages along with the blog would go a long way.

Good idea. I think that would work well for Tryggvy so that he can keep you up to date on whats going on without actually having to go into the html editor and edit the web page. I will see what I can do, thanks a bunch!

Godfrey, the modern medieval tasty food is "membrillo" which is quince paste imported from Spain. Look for it in your favorite gourmet grocery store! :)

Mark, I think that's a good idea. I've just been posting stuff here to the forum, but I'd be more than happy to send you neater versions of recipes and some kind of summary to post all in one place. Just like a real cooking show, lol!

Is there an ETA for release of podcast #33?

I often have trouble with response time on the website and would also like (as mentioned by others) to see a linked episode guide with aboutness info.

Thanks,
Rafaella

Rafaella, I don't know anything about when the podcast will be out, that's not my department so to speak. As for an episode guide(I assume you mean a list of episodes with a short summary or something like that) I will probably incorporate something like that onto podcast page.

And as a general update to everybody. I do not know when the new website will be out. It all depends on how much work I can get done per day(I am thinking 1-2 hours of work right now). I am setting up a new website that will replace the old one, so instead of gradual changes you will see one very large change. I will keep the old files as back up in case things don't work though. So keep giving me ideas, and as I work I will add them in!

Right, so I finished my term paper on Napoleonic navies last night(YAY!!!). Which means I had red bull coursing through my veins at 2 am so I started the new codes for the website. It is excessively bare bones right now, just a blank page with some text, but over time it will grow and improve. If you like you can check on it from time to time and see the progress, comment on things you dislike/like, and suggest new ideas. See link(will be changed to lionsroad.org once it is all done).

Greetings, all;
I'm almost caught up listening to the back podcasts, but have been unable to download Episode 34, On a Comeback from iTunes.
You can just let me know if it's all explained in Episode 35, but since I'm trying to listen in order, I'm stalled at Episode 33. :-P
thanks,
Elfreda
