No posts received thumbs up, next time you see a good one, give some respect and thumb it up.
I just returned from An Tir's big seasonal kickoff for the outdoor tournament season Ursalmas, It was hosted as always by the Barony ofAquaterra, and what a great event! It was a non-stop fighting buffet of every style popular in the SCA, heavy, light, archery and pillows! If you can fight with it in the SCA we were using it and had a tournament for it.
I fought 12 fights on the checky eric in the heavy tournament with a dismal 3-9 wins, and another dozen or so practice fights with whoever would cross swords with me. The checky eric had some great knights and fighters on it, Sir Octamasades and Sir Rustam being two great fights and Sir Alexi (sp) being a rarer (for me) fight all of which were great fun and then I went on to do another dozen or so pick-up fights between the tournament and semi-finals. In these I went a few more rounds with Squire Tristan who was also on the checky eric we double killed in the tournament and we seemed to have a few more double kills before the semifinals managed to get their pairings together and take over the erics. In the end it was a our own Duke Sven Gunnarson vs. Duke Gaston of Trimaris with Sven taking victory.
That win for Sven came only after several epic battles most notably a two sword vs. two sword battle between Sven and Octamasades that I can only call a dance of blades I will never forget. Even seeing it on tape afterwards it still thwarts a good description other than "wonderful swordsmanship".
I had a great time and look forward to the next one, I will not go onabout how sore I am other than to say that bruises can turn from purpleto greenish overnight and falling down in death can be the hardest blowyou mayever get!
All this said I have to end on some constructive critique. The pairings and organizational heirarchy that were used forthe semis, and finals should be burned... at the stake! Good greif thewait between actual results in the semifinals and the setup washeinous. Aquaterrans, AnTirians please for the love of your own awesome event fix this!!!

Mark you are a new hero of mine. So here are some largely graphic things that I would love to see.
Text fitting: I use Firefox and I see text running into itself and overlapping in several places it always makes me bounce away. I dont know if its firefox or what.
Graphic aspect ratio keeping graphic size width/height would also be great "stretching" images are a pet peeve.
I would also like some buttons or somthing to make navigating around more clear. Like what to click to go someplace or whatever as opposed to hotlink words. This is a tiny thing but if its possible... great!

Yes it did inspire the bunk. :) I too have left my boots out for st nicholas. Inspired by our German neighbors and their kids who awoke on the 5th to find their converse filled with goodies me and my brothers and sister insisted that it would be a good test of the jolly ones preparedness. He did not disappoint! We felt as though we had discovered the eldorado... A second christmas!
I was very surprised to find no mention of gift giving specifically mentioned in any Yule traditions on wikipedia but all the trappings of modern christmas seem to come from it.
It is amazing that we have gone this far and that I still sound like an idiot to myself... and I am sure to some of you out there as well :)
My biggest hope is I can keep the message going. The message is history is alive and well and it is now fueled by love.
Cheers!

A hunting trousse also from hermann-historica.
I NEED this to be a proper medieval German. It could have been mine for only 3500 euros
This one is from www.hermann-historica.com go check these guys out and if you have the Euros, buy a slice of medieval history for yourself! And not just armour or weapons TONS of other really neat medieval stuff.
It is indecent how much I want this heap of rust. It is a bit like the skeleton Lucy to a paleontologist. It is an almost unique transitional armour, it represents the time in between platemail and earlier banded or platelet mails. The chains seen on this (thought to secure weapons) are nearly unique in the material history of armour.
Oh and another one to pique your interest from a book called "Rediscovering the Arms and Armour of the Himalayas" I love how ancient things "weather"
This is a forearm guard of leather and iron from Tibet.... Sweet!
I love me some medieval material culture. I try to reproduce it, I try to get inside of the processes of it. And most importantly I collect images... tons and tons of images. I am going to drop a few on you here.
Forgive the almost total armour centric perspective.
I want this chair!!!! ... to be light and portable enough to win the year of the chair :)
Hehehe! listen to episode 30 we give each other a raft of $#!t about our near complete neglect on our respective chairs!!
Good catch and... UH we are on it ;)

I just had a friend of mine tell me that HBO has ordered a pilot for a series base on the Game of Thrones series written by George RR Martin. I love the books and am really looking forward to seeing what comes from this production.
If any of you out there have been looking for somthing to get you hooked try the books are freaking awesome reads.
I have to agree it is cashing in on a genre. They got me to watch once playing on my love of costumes and swordfights, but after one I am done with it.
Its too bad I would make room for a fantasy/medieval series if it had some content.
HEHEHE Dagmear Halvdan picked the pin as her prize in our Lions Road drawing.
Huge thanks to everyone who entered please stay tuned there will be more great stuff in the future.
we needed a little icon for the podcast for itunes, I wonder if anyone will see it in this little NICHE of mine!!
As always comments critique are welcome.... constructive please

If anyone ever needs to totally glut their brain with all that armourers have ramble on about this is the place gorge. It is however studded with some real gems. I have to count this photo essay in the creation of an Italian gothic harness one of the most informative armour bits I have ever seen on the internet. Patrick Thaden is a really talented guy.

Hehe yeah the fiber would be an armful... I can just see it delivered in a refrigerator box weighing several pounds :)
Really the as of yet unphotographed wool is three yards of unworsted(sp?)fabric. I think it is what might be called a lighter coat weight wool. The colors are going to be whatever the winner wants, and that we can locate. And with the Pendelton mills being a local instition it should be some quality stuff.
I too had many reservations about I-tunes folks but let me just say for the record I really like getting podcasts through them. Its organized and easy and people who leave feedback are cool.
This is the lord chief justice of the common pleas chain of office, from christie's auction website.
Why cant laurels wear gold chains in our area... dang ol knights get all the good stuff.
OK all but one are up I still need to get my camera back so I can photograph wool swatches. Later today if all goes as planned.
